Public Sector
The public sector is owned by the government and run primarily using money raised from taxes. The public sector provides free or subsidised goods and services for the benefit of the general public – services include health and social care, education, emergency services, and housing.

Private Sector
The private sector is a collection of firms run by individuals and companies operating for profit. These businesses are neither owned nor operated by the state. They are financed by private money and loans for the benefit of owners, shareholders and investors.

Third Sector
The third sector is a collective term for organisations that operate in neither the public nor private sectors. They are generally independent of government and motivated by values-driven social goals rather than profit. Third sector organisations include charities, voluntary groups, community organisations, social enterprises and cooperatives.
