Upcoming Events in the North West
The Labour Relations Agency, in conjunction with the Ulster University Law Society - Magee, present the following events in March and April in the North West.
Leaflet 1. Know the Law
February 2016
Employees have a range of legal rights derived from national or European legislation and these are summarised in this leaflet
Disclosure of information to trade unions for collective bargaining purposes
The Agency has a duty to provide practical guidance on the application of Articles 39 and 40 of the Industrial Relations (Northern Ireland) Order 1992 (“the 1992 Order”) in relation to the disclosure of information by employers to trade unions for the purpose of collective bargaining.
Informal actions
Whether it’s the employer who needs to raise an issue with an employee, or an employee who would like to make a complaint to their employer, it is useful to consider in the first instance whether an informal approach could be taken to resolve the matter.
Webinar - Redundancy
This webinar provides useful information and advice on the topic of redundancy. It illustrates how to ensure the process is managed fairly and in line with employment legislation.
Rests and breaks
Employees are entitled to breaks for meals and to rest. As far as possible employers should provide breaks, facilities and comfortable surroundings for additional needs such as breastfeeding or expressing milk.
Misconduct and gross misconduct
Disciplinary issues arise when the employer has concerns about an employee’s conduct, absence from work or the way they are performing in their job. They may start a disciplinary procedure which could lead to disciplinary action (including dismissal in more serious cases).
Disciplinary or grievance hearings
Workers have the right to take paid time off during working hours to accompany fellow workers employed by the same employer to certain disciplinary and grievance hearings.
Webinar - Conducting Employment Investigations
This webinar will show how to plan and successfully execute an investigation, the legal framework and best practice for carrying out an investigation and will also give information on dealing with difficult issues.
