Increase of limits on Tribunal awards and payments under employment rights legislation
The Department for the Economy has made a statutory rule entitled The Employment Rights (Increase of Limits) Order (Northern Ireland) 2023 (legislation.gov.uk).
The Order increases, from 6 April 2023, limits applicable to certain awards and payments under employment rights legislation in line with the Retail Prices Index.

173 Industrial Tribunals (Constitution and Rules of Procedure) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996
These Regulations revoke and replace the existing regulations on rules of procedure for Industrial Tribunals and include: rules applicable to all proceedings before an Industrial Tribunal, rules regarding ‘equal value’ claims, levy appeal rules, rules on appeals against improvement/prohibition notices, rules on appeals against non-discrimination notices, rules regarding £150 deposit in pre-hearing reviews, reporting restriction rules, orders for costs (specified instances) and so on.
242 Suspension from Work on Maternity Grounds (Merchant Shipping and Fishery Vessels) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998
These Regulations require that in certain circumstances new or expectant mothers shall be suspended from work for health and safety reasons.
Maternity, Paternity and Parental leave
Pregnant employees are entitled to up to one year’s maternity leave. Paternity leave is available if certain criteria are met. Parents are also entitled to 18 weeks’ unpaid leave for each child up to their 18th birthday.

The Labour Relations Agency provides an Early Conciliation service following a change in NI employment law which took effect on 27 January 2020. This service helps to resolve workplace disputes in a legally binding way, without the need to take a case to the Industrial or Fair Employment Tribunal. These Rules amend the Rules of the Court of Judicature (Northern Ireland) to provide for the award of penalties by the High Court under the Transnational Information and Consultation of Employees Regulations 1999 (S.I 1999/3323), in consequence of amendments made by the Transnational Information and Consultation of Employees (Amendment) Regulations 2010 which came into effect on 5/6/11.
