Giving and Accepting Notice
If the employer or employee wishes to end the employment relationship they must give each other notice.
193 Employment Rights (Time off for Study or Training) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000
These Regulations set out the standard of achievement which is prescribed for the purposes of the Employment Rights (Northern (Ireland) Order 1996.
Suspension
An employer may decide to suspend an employee temporarily from work if they are involved in a disciplinary situation, or for maternity or medical reasons. Usually an employee who is suspended is entitled to their normal pay during their suspension.

An apprentice is someone who is engaged through an employment contract to undertake a course of training and learning in order to practice a skilled trade or profession.
Contracts of employment
A contract of employment is a legal agreement between an employer and an employee which sets out their employment rights, responsibilities and duties. The employment contract is made as soon as a job offer is accepted.
Volunteers
A volunteer is not an employee or a worker and does not have an employment contract.
