No 103 The Statutory Shared Parental Pay (Persons Abroad and Mariners) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015
These Regulations come into operation on 15/3/15 and modify the Statutory Shared Parental Pay (General) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015 to give certain persons abroad, those who work as mariners and those who work on the continental shelf an entitlement to statutory shared parental pay.
The Parental Bereavement Leave (No. 2) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2023
The Regulations revoke and re-enact the provisions of the Parental Bereavement Leave Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2023. These Regulations provide for a statutory entitlement for bereaved parents who are employees to take up to two weeks’ leave from their job called parental bereavement leave in the 56 weeks following the death of a child.
Paternity Leave
Paternity leave allows parents to take time off from their work to have time with their child following a birth.
No 26 The Parental Leave (EU Directive) (Flexible Working) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2013
These Regulations implement Council Directive 2010/18/EU on the revised framework agreement on parental leave. They amend provisions relating to parental leave in the Employment Rights (Northern Ireland) Order 1996.
Adoption leave
Employees who are adopting are entitled to time off in a similar way to maternity leave.
No 102 The Social Security (Maternity Allowance) (Participating Wife or Civil Partner of Self-employed Earner) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2014
These Regulations come into operation from 1/4/14 and effectively implement Article 8 of the European Directive 2010/41/EU. It provides an entitlement to maternity allowance of 14 weeks for women who participate in their spouse’s or civil partner’s self employed business, but for which they receive no income.
Maternity Leave
The law sets out the legal minimum leave entitlements for mothers.
Agreements between employers and employees may provide for better arrangements than the statutory minimum.
No 90 The Social Security Contributions and Benefits (Northern Ireland) Act 1992 (Application of Parts 12ZA, 12ZB and 12ZC to Parental Order Cases) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015
These Regulations modify requirements in the 1992 Act to provide that an employee who has a baby with the help of a surrogate and is a parental order parent may be entitled to statutory adoption pay, statutory paternity pay or statutory shared parental pay if they meet the eligibility requirements.
No 104 The Maternity and Parental Leave etc. (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015
These Regulations amend the Maternity and Parental Leave etc. Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999. The purpose of doing so is to remove the limitation on parental leave so that it may be taken at any time before a child’s eighteenth birthday.
