This Order comes into on 10/9/12 and essentially amends the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Miscellaneous Provisions) Order (Northern Ireland) 2009 (“the 2009 Order”) by revoking the provisions in the 2009 Order which provided that certain people should not be treated as vulnerable adults or as providing regulated activity to children or to vulnerable adults, in light of the changes to the definitions of vulnerable adult, regulated activity relating to children and regulated activity relating to vulnerable adults in Schedule 7 to the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 (“the 2012 Act”).

The Labour Relations Agency has moved to a new location in Derry/Londonderry’s Richmond Chambers in The Diamond. The more accessible city centre office has newly refurbished seminar and meeting rooms for the delivery of the Agency’s dispute resolution and advisory services.

The Regulations relate to the remedies that can be granted for cases of sex discrimination and specifically to remedies for indirect discrimination even where the respondent did not intend to treat the claimant unfavourably on sex or marital status grounds.

These Regulations modify requirements in the 1992 Act to provide that an employee who has a baby with the help of a surrogate and is a parental order parent may be entitled to statutory adoption pay, statutory paternity pay or statutory shared parental pay if they meet the eligibility requirements.

These Regulations make a variety of amendments to our anti-discrimination legislation as it pertains to gender and pregnancy only. This Order comes into operation on 1/1/12 and essentially provides for complaints under Regulation 51 of the Companies (Cross-Border Mergers) Regulations 2007 to be covered as a jurisdiction to which the new Labour Relations Agency Code of Practice on Discipline and Grievance will apply.
