Whistleblowing under the Public Interest Disclosure (NI) Order 1998


This seminar examines the core aspects of the Northern Ireland Public Interest Disclosure legislation and developments in case law since 1998.  The focus shall be on how a legally protected disclosure is made and how a worker is protected from detriment or dismissal if they have made a legally sound public interest disclosure to the appropriate person/prescribed body.  It shall also examine issues such as key considerations when drafting a Whistleblowing Policy and potential areas of reform in the legislative framework.  This seminar will be of particular interest to HR professionals and trade union representatives.

Learning objectives

At the end of this seminar participants will be able to:

  • apply the requirements of the law on whistleblowing to their own workplace context
  • draft the basis of a Whistleblowing Policy as underpinned by the legislation
  • make provision for amending existing policy documents to make them compliant with imminent changes to the law

The seminar will last for 2.5 hours.
