Minister announces appointment to the board of the Labour Relations Agency

The Employment and Learning Minister, Dr Stephen Farry, has announced the appointment of Mr Gary McMichael as the new independent member to the Board of the Labour Relations Agency.

This appointment takes effect from 1 December 2011 for a period of three years.

Since 2001, Mr McMichael has been the Director and Chief Officer of Action on Substances Through Community Education and Related Training (ASCERT), where he oversees the implementation of the organisation’s strategic and operational plan, as well as financial management. He was also nominated to the Eastern Drug and Alcohol Co-ordination Team (EDACT) (which includes representatives from a wide range of interests) by a voluntary sector forum and is currently its Chair.

Since 2010, he has been a voluntary Board Member of the Voice of Young People in Care, providing strategic direction and governance to the charity. Prior to that, he was an elected Member of Lisburn City Council, a voluntary Board Member of SALTA Services, Chair of the Lisburn Community Network, and a Trustee of the Northern Ireland Fund for Reconciliation. From 1999 to 2002 he was an OFMdFM appointee to the NI Civic Forum.
