The Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) and Service Provision Change Regulations (known as TUPE) give effect to an EC Directive on safeguarding employees' rights when the business they are working for is transferred to a new employer. The Regulations also protect the interests of Trade Unions affected by the transfer. The Regulations apply to Northern Ireland and came into operation on 6 April 2006.
