KIT (Keeping in Touch) Days

KIT days were introduced in April 2007 and provide an opportunity for a woman during maternity leave to attend work for training or other purposes for up to 10 days without losing any maternity pay. Attendance at work for a KIT day is voluntary by agreement between an employer and employee. An employee will not lose any Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) for attending on a KIT day and the payment of any contractual monies in addition to SMP for the KIT day is subject to agreement between employer and employee.

Further information on KIT days and maternity rights is available on the DEL ER Booklet 16  Maternity Rights - A guide for employers and employees
